February 2010

Apparently, Eileen Filler-Corn doesn’t know anything about the issues, and just resorts to attacks. While she’s talking about Rush Limbaugh, Kerry Bolognese is talking about cutting government waste, creating jobs, and putting more money into the classrooms.

A very small group of Republicans have grouped together against one of the congressional candidates in the 8th District. The candidate that they’re protesting? Mark Ellmore. The group states,

Mark Ellmore has announced he is seeking the 2010 Republican nomination in Virginia’s 8th Congressional District.

We are a group of dedicated Republicans in Virginia’s 8th Congressional District who oppose the dishonest Mark Ellmore in his race for the GOP nomination.

In 2008, Mark Ellmore received less than 30% of the vote, with only 29.68%. This was the lowest percentage received by a Republican Congressional Candidate in VA’s 8th district, in more than 12 years.

Mark Ellmore has proven he is not a viable candidate. We invite all Republicans to say “No” to Mark Ellmore.

Interesting group. Let’s look at the types of people in the group-

-Former Amit Singh staffers: Matthew Deleon and Steve Bierfeldt

-Bloggers: Krystal Weeks of Crystal Clear Conservative

-Former candidates: Eric Brescia (2009 HOD)

I have yet to interview Mark Ellmore, but when I do I’ll ask him what he thinks of GOP opposition to him. Until then, you can check out the group here.

The deadline to file to be a member of the County Committee or a delegate to the 8th district convention is TODAY if you live in Arlington and THURSDAY if you live in Alexandria.

Either be at the meeting or have it postmarked by that date. Visit their websites for more info.

There is already a group (granted very small) that is mad at Scott Brown for his most recent vote. The groups claims, “Scott Brown led everyone to believe he was an economic conservative….Where’s your conservatism, Scott?”

This is ridiculous. Brown campaigned on being a moderate, and working well with both parties in Washington. He was the candidate of change, the one to send a message that the Democrats in Washington were being too liberal, and now Republicans are made at him for actually doing what he said he would do? This is crap.

I’m sure everyone has heard about Delegate Bob Marshall’s controversial statements regarding abortion. For those who missed it, he was at a press conference, talking about cutting Planned Parenthood from Virginia’s Budget. Here’s what he said

The number of children who are born subsequent to a first abortion with handicaps has increased dramatically. Why? Because when you abort the first born of any, nature takes its vengeance on the subsequent children.

The left had a field day with this. A petition, already containing 266 signatures, is being circulated to remove Marshall from office.

Marshall got wind of this, and quickly released a statement, saying,

A story by Capital News Service regarding my remarks at a recent press conference opposing taxpayer funding for Planned Parenthood conveyed the impression that I believe disabled children are a punishment for prior abortions. No one who knows me or my record would imagine that I believe or intended to communicate such an offensive notion. I have devoted a generation of work to defending disabled and unwanted children, and have always maintained that they are special blessings to their parents. Nevertheless, I regret any misimpression my poorly chosen words may have created as to my deep commitment to fighting for these vulnerable children and their families.

So what does this mean? Well for starters, I’m ruling out Marshall for Senate 2012. While the hard right will still support him, pragmatic Republicans who want a Republican without baggage may not get on board.

With that being said, I don’t think he’ll be losing his Delegate seat anytime soon, but angry parents who only read the blogs’ interpretations might be angry and put up a fight. Perhaps expect anti-Bob websites coming up soon, and more commentary from the blogs.
