What an exhilirating evening.  For the first time in 9 years (or something like that), a Republican has been elected to the Alexandria City Council.  Two, in fact — Frank Fannon and Alicia Hughes (a R-leaning independent).  It was the result of having great candidates with local roots and ties, a great party organization led by Alexandria R Chair Chris Marston, and a lot of hard working grassroots volunteers.  The local Rs from neighboring areas helped, and the result was a double success in Alexandria.  More from the WaPo here.

Congrats to the Alexandria GOP!

Update from Not Jim Moran:

Big shake ups happening in the Alexandria Democratic Committee, as local coverage goes crazy! Calls for Chairman Susan Kellom to resign are coming from bloggers and be hinted at by some on the City Council!
