Folks, I heard Frank Fannon and Phil Cefaratti speak last night at the Alexandria Young Republicans, and I continue to be impressed with both of them as candidates for the Alexandria City Council.  Frank has a remarkable command — dare I say wonky? — of the issues facing the city, and as a businessman and member of the Alexandria Chamber of Commerce he knows what is good for business.  That’s something desperately needed these days.

Frank talked about ways to encourage business to come back to Alexandria, through lower licensing fees and a welcoming atmosphere.  The “little things”, he said, that make the difference between a business-friendly community and a community hostile to business.  And, as he noted, the tax base will benefit from the increased business activity.  Learn more about Frank at www.FrankFannon.com.

Phil spoke about education, and the need to get parents more involved with their children’s education, through programs offered by the schools.  He understands, as a realtor by day, that you can’t attract families to Alexandria without good schools.

They’ll both be in in the St. Patrick’s Day parade this Saturday at 12 noon.  Can you help them by marching with them in the parade?  We’ll also be marching for Bob McDonnell and Bill Bolling.  Meet near the corner of Prince St. and Daingerfield St. (in the West End of Old Town Alexandria) to be part of the fun!
